Lemon is one of a pair of sisters we purchased together, daughters of promising new stud on the block, Broadstrand Bono. They came to us partially schooled and Richie Taberner has their care to complete their schooling and get them racing at Monmore Green,
Lemon was the first to successfully complete her grading trials and it was decided that she should commence her career in sprints. It didn’t take her long to shine, winning well at the third attempt. After one more outing she then came in season and would surely strip fitter on her return.
She duly won her second A8 in good style, followed by a victory in A7. She had been raced more lightly than her sister and only just gets the Monmore 480m trip. She needs to trap well to make the most of her undoubted early pace in order to hold on in front. Frustratingly, she developed the habit of sleeping in the traps and ruining her races. She would need to learn like her sister Lime!
My, did Lemon learn and improve. Maybe it was something to do with being called ‘Paz’ in the kennel but she took her winning tally to a remarkable eleven in no time at all, rising from A8 to A2! She then went down by just a short head in her bid to make it to top grade. These remarkable performances were recognized when she was voted ‘Bitch of the Month’ in June 2024, we had a presentation accordingly and now have a jacket and rosette to keep.
She was in close contention for Bitch of the Year 2024 and contested several open races at Monmore and Towcester, wining one and going close a couple of times but the A2 win proved elusive even though she gave her all every time. In December she suffered a shoulder injury just like her sister and would require a few months’ rest and treatment.
